Protein

How Does Protein Impact Your Energy Levels?

Protein is one of the macronutrients that your body needs to keep your body working at its best.

Having quality protein spaced out throughout the day at each meal and snack is a great way to optimize energy levels.

Studies show that eating a high-protein diet helps to maintain a balanced level of energy in your body. It can also help with weight loss, muscle function, and muscle growth.

Protein helps to slow down the digestion of carbohydrates, providing a more steady energy balance throughout the day. Protein also helps to curb hunger and cravings, helping to prevent cravings for simple sugars that can lead to energy crashes during the day.

Food and energy go hand-in-hand. Carbs, especially complex carbohydrates, play an important role in energy production. Mixing complex carbs with good sources of protein and fat can keep your energy for longer, powering you through.

Choosing a protein powder can be overwhelming since there are so many options on store shelves. Ingredients, flavours, and protein sources can all factor into how you choose a protein powder.

When you go shopping for the perfect protein powder, start with some basic questions:

  1. What flavour do you like? The most effective protein powder is the one you’re happy to use. Look for flavours you enjoy so your daily protein shake won’t be a chore to drink.
  2. Do you have dietary restrictions? Check the ingredients of protein powders to make sure they meet your dietary choices. Labels should show if the product meets special requirements such as non-GMO, vegan, or kosher.
  3. Do you need to watch your sugar intake? If you’re keeping close tabs on how much sugar you eat each day, look for a protein powder formulation that contains an added sugar amount that works for you.
  4. Will it supply the right amount of protein? Take a look at the per-serving information to make sure the powder will give you the protein you want for your nutrition goals.
  5. Has it been tested for safety? Protein powders are considered supplements, not food products, so they aren’t regulated by the FDA.
